2nd Assembly District: Democrats pick Schiliro to face Palumbo in the fall

Democrats, moving early, have named Tom Schiliro to take on freshman Assemb. Anthony Palumbo (R-New Suffolk) in November.
“We need to get our fair share of state funding and the current guys have not been making it happen,” said Schiliro, criticizing Palumbo and his predecessor, now Brookhaven Highway Superintendent Dan Losquadro.

Schiliro, a sergeant with nearly two decades experience with the Suffolk County park police, ran a losing Democratic primary for Brookhaven town board in 2009 and last year was put forward for run for town highway superintendent but he voluntarily withdrew late to allow former deputy highway superintendent Lori Baldassare to run instead. Earlier in 1981, he ran a losing race in Nassau’s 13th Assembly District to succeed former Assemb. Angelo Orazio.

“We can win this district but I knew we had to start early,” he said. “That’s why I approached Rich Schaffer in January and he was agreeable to move ahead.”
