Thomas Schiliro, a Suffolk Park Police sergeant, narrowly edged out incumbent Assemb. Anthony H. Palumbo in an Independence Party primary in the 2nd Assembly District on eastern Long Island.
With all precincts reporting Tuesday night, Schiliro, 62, of Manorville, appeared to have defeated Palumbo, 43, of New Suffolk, 52 percent to 47 percent. Palumbo, who replaced Daniel Losquadro after Losquadro's election as Brookhaven highway superintendent, has the Republican and Conservative party lines, while Schiliro has the Democratic and Working Families party lines....
